We went to Museé Cluny, which is the museum of art and culture from the Middle Ages. It's in this stunning gothic building that is Medieval itself. The chapel was small but breathtaking, with high ceilings and those Gothic arches that I love ever so much.
We saw gorgeous tapestries, exquisite stained glass, carved wooden religious statues and icons, paintings, decorative items and furniture, Medieval public baths, etc.
One of my favorites was the long spindly Narwhal horn that people in Medieval times thought was from a unicorn!
The gem of this museum was the exhibit of the tapestries known as "The Lady and the Unicorn." I've been wanting to see these for ages and it was such a treat! They were displayed in their own circular room, dimly lit to help deter damage to the 500+ year old tapestries. They were seriously amazing and I relished just sitting there feeling overwhelmed and in complete awe of their beauty and the level of detail and skill involved.
The tapestries represented different allegorical concepts such as sight, touch, taste, and hearing. In addition to the unicorn, each one featured a regal lion, a mischievous monkey, and other flora and fauna.
