Still in the throes of jet lag, we had a late start once again. With it being Sunday, chilly, and raining there wasn't much to do but camp out at an adorable cafe for a few hours. Tonight we made a romantic dinner and watched Midnight in Paris. A perfect Sunday in Paris, in my opinion.
Last night we had a dinner date at Portager du Marais, an all-vegetarian and mostly vegan restaurant near the Pompidou, Europe's largest modern art museum. The restaurant was tiny and totally packed, with barely any room between the tables. My meal was very tasty- a mushroom/walnut roast with toasted pinenuts and a comforting, familiar deliciousness. Complementing the roast was cauliflower smothered in a saffron cream sauce. A shredded beet and carrot salad added some color and freshness. It was a bit too pricey, but overall very yummy and a nice Saturday night treat.
Ketch had Seitan Bourguignon stew. We had high hopes for this vegan twist on a French classic, but it ended up being a bit lackluster. Dessert was much better- a banana chocolate Charlotte and gingerbread creme brûlée! I'm a sucker for vegan creme brûlée and this really hit the spot.
After such a decadent dinner, a walk was much needed. We ended up seeing Notre Dame, the Sorbonne, and the Odeon - all lit up beautifully. We walked along the river and picked a random winding tiny alley that ended up being full of Saturday night revelers. We made it through the chaos and followed the glittering Eiffel Tower in the distance as a beacon leading us home.
Tomorrow - the Pompidou and more exploring!
